How we rate crypto cards
Our scores are built from facts we can point to. Here is where those facts come from and how they turn into a score.
Where the facts come from
We read the issuer's pages
We read the issuer's own fee schedules, terms and conditions, help centre and official announcements. We do not take numbers from other comparison sites.
Every number gets its source
Each fee, limit and feature on a card page links to the page that states it. A figure the issuer doesn't publish is shown as "Not disclosed".
We check again
A reviewer re-checks every card at least every 90 days, and straight away when an issuer announces a change or a reader reports one.
The five-part score
Each part is scored from 0 to 5 using the card data, then combined with these weights. A reviewer can adjust a part when the data misses something, and the change is logged.
| Part | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | 30% | Estimated monthly cost of the entry tier on 1,000 of spending, including subscription, top-up, conversion and foreign-currency fees. |
| Rewards | 20% | Net monthly cashback after subscription, counting only tiers a regular user can reach (up to 1,000 staked, up to 20 a month). |
| Custody and safety | 20% | Who holds your money, whether the issuing bank is named, and any open security warning. |
| Availability | 15% | How many countries it works in and how much ID it needs. Discontinued cards score 0 here. |
| Features | 15% | Apple Pay, Google Pay, ATM cash, physical card, IBAN and earning on balance. |
Assumptions: 20% of spending is in a foreign currency. A percentage fee the issuer doesn't publish counts as 1%. Amounts stay in the issuer's own currency.
How we make money
Some "Go to the issuer" buttons are referral links, and we may earn a commission if you sign up. Commissions never change a score or a ranking, and referral links are marked on each page.
Corrections
If a number is out of date, tell us with a link to the issuer's page. We check it within 48 hours and record the correction in the card's change log.
